Folklore has it that Valentine's Day is when birds start pairing up, so I though I'd mention that I saw Kestrel Falcons mating on an aerial in LIC on my way to work today. Beats porno.
right on my good friend!!!
I was just looking for a different link, but on further inspsection, this Kestrel-witch has a pretty good page.
The young are out of the nest. I saw the first fledgling on my way to work this morning. The parents were perched on towers at opposite ends of the church building and a young bird flew from one to the other, while another peeked out from the hole in roof molding where the nest is located. I also found Brown Thrashers nesting in the Park this weekend, a somewhat uncommon occurence, though there appear to be at least two pairs here this year.
