Dave's link to the update on Richard Jewel also contained some information I was wondering about the other day. Apparently Eric Rudolph is still at large (they think he was the real bomber in the Atlanta case Jewel was wrongly accused of, plus he is wanted for several other bombings of abortion clinics.) Anyway, how can he still be at large? He's on the FBI's 10 most wanted list which means they are definitely looking for him, but more importantly, he's been all over the news (or at least he was a couple of years ago.) I thought that America's Most Wanted proves that there is nowhere to hide? They always catch everybody that shows up on that show. Somebody must have seen this guy. I am truely baffled. Either, a) someone is hiding him and doing all of his interfacing with the world (buying food, ect...) and Eric himself literally NEVER steps foot outside, or b) he moved somewhere they don't have any U.S. media penetration. And is b) even possible? Where the hell is this guy?
For what it's worth..a friend of mine who grew up in the North Carolina Mountains, where Rudolf is suspected to have disappeared, says they'll never find him. I'm not really familiar with that area, but she says it's very remote, only people from there really know it, it covers a huge area and what few locals there are wouldn't necessarily be inclined to assist Federal law enforcement and may not watch a lot of tv. Have you read Cold Mountain?
No I haven't read Cold Mountain, but I think I have a copy. I'll add it to my list right after the last one you recommended. Now if only I could search this site for my notes from the bookstore.
I rent a house outside of the Durham, Chapel Hill area to a guy I worked with and this guy (and his wife) are pretty serious country folk and he told me some stories about an uncle who was/is a moonshiner in those remote western N.Carolina mountains (that part of the world were Georgia, N.Carolina, Tennessee, Virgina, and Kentucky sort of come together is amazing country), and if half of what he said is true then I agree that the authorities will never extract a God fearing abortion clinic bombing American from out of that area. Unless he just gets really careless, which is almost always the reason people get caught.

I don't think we would find those people up there as funny as Jed and Jethro, and oh the irrepressible wit of Ellie Mae, but it could still happen I guess, someone selling out, loading up the truck...
