I noticed in our park the day before yesterday, the arrival of grazing season for the squirels. Little tips (sometimes bigger tips) of tree branched littering the ground all over the area.
They're probably eating flower buds. Usually you see this earlier in the year. I don't think it's their favorite food, but depending on the severity of the winter, and the availability of other food sources, they always end up there. This is a period when last year's mast (plant stuff that's fallen to the ground) is exhausted, and this year's fruits have not yet developed.

...then every dog that comes allong pees on them 'cause they smell like squirrel.
