a friend of mine is casting for a reality tv show about a nyc restaurant - she is looking for restaurant people who have large personalities (don't they all?) and want to be on tv. anyone interested should contact shii ann huang at shuang@gradylevkov.com.
She should try to get Lucien. He'd be perfect.
who's lucien? can i put them in touch?
we should have filmed the making of wd50, plenty of gripping drama there.
speaking of lucien, i dug this up on a search
"On November 12, 1998, a DOH inspector was conducting a pre-operational inspection at Lucien's Restaurant, located at 14 First Avenue, Manhattan, and met with the owner, LUCIEN BAHAJ. During the course of the inspection, the inspector pointed out such violations as rodent and vermin activity, cold food being stored above the mandated temperature, and ashtrays in a smoke-free area. BAHAJ then offered the inspector approximately $50 not to issue any violations. The inspector refused the offer and contacted DOI. On March 25, 1999, DOI sent an undercover agent, posing as a DOH inspector, to the restaurant to conduct an inspection. While there, the DOI undercover pointed out such violations as mouse droppings and uncovered food to BAHAJ, who then offered and paid the undercover $100 not to issue any violations."
I think I heard that someone did film the making of wd50, but I don't know that directly. Seems like a reasonable move given how interested people are in it, and how well cooking related shows do.
Yeah, Lucien of Lucien's (First ave between first and second.) He also runs the food at the Pink Pony on Ludlow. And is Leon his too? I can't remember. Anyway, he's a character. I hadn't heard dave's story but it sounds about right.
I vaguely know him. Not really enough to call, but I'll mention it next time I see him.
sounds like a lovey character - would be perfect on tv :-)
thanks for dropping the word, jim.

I will say this is absolutely false if served a few free meals with wine on clean plates and vessels. After all, I have met the gentleman and I like free meals.
