Babatunde Olatunji "...76, the Nigerian drummer whose 1959 Columbia Records album, 'Drums of Passion,' helped introduce African music into the American mainstream, died of complications of diabetes April 6 in Salinas, California."
Skinny, you must have seen him. I did once with the Dead at the Garden. Impressive presence.
Is there a word for a sudden spike in P2P file sharing network searches for recently deceased artists?
I saw him perform a couple of times, most recently in Santa Cruz a year or two ago. Sad to see him go.
he was very good, many a greek theatre show with the REAL dead, he also played at the 78 pyramid shows i believe umong others.....
I'll never forget hearing that seminal Olatunji album, "Drums of Passion". I couldn't believe it when I saw that he was performing in NY-- I thought that this legend was already dead. I saw him perform outdoors in NY--the ugly south street shee-port or central park. sublime.
