what the hell was neil young saying in greendale ? lots of charged imagery, not alot of meaning then after a normal 2nd set, the
last shot on the jumbotron is video freeze frame of yankees hat tossed on stage (NY, neil young, get it ?)
we saw our 2nd show this weekend, great show, lots of emotion and i think it means a lot....
yeah, but mean what ? what does " support the war" mean in that context.
you mean the 'support our war' billboard paid for by clearchannel? did you see the show?
yes but i didnt understand it - he must have known that weird prowar lines would get cheers (at least from from our admittedly rowdy and beered up/stoned jersey croud.) I did note the new line in rockin' in the free world : "we're loosing boyse every day cause we didnt have a plan." from the encore set. I still have a bad taste left from "lets roll" (not covered).
neil is not the dali lama, i have some thoughts/issue's with him, but not his band's ability to rock me love it!!
i thought people were cheering the tie in with clearchannel and the war, not that he was backing the war.
i know that and you know that, but do dey know dat (just wondering). and yes indeedy do crazy hourse is a great rocking outfit / double gibson leads makes for a thrashing good time.
thanks skinny for the following via email :
"Among the cast members were Sarah White (as Sun Green), Young's wife, Pegi (as mother Edith Green), and Larry Cragg (as Grandpa). Longtime Pearl Jam road manager Eric Johnson portrayed cousin Jed, a troubled man who kills officer Carmichael during a traffic stop.
Pegi Morton, a waitress who worked near his California ranch, is the second Mrs Young. He married briefly in the late 1960s, divorced, and had a son, Zeke, with actor Carrie Snodgress. But it is Pegi who, uniquely, is the collaborator he never reneged on, however hard times got. "It must be because she is a great woman. To handle me is not easy," he admits. Pegi has survived cancer and they have both cared for a son so disabled by cerebral palsy that he is quadriplegic and cannot speak. In 1980 Young made the sacrifice of turning his back on music to care for Ben. When, disillusioned by the physical regimen it had been recommended that he subject the boy to, he returned to recording 18 months later, his career entered a decline that wasn't reversed until Harvest Moon in 1992. Ben is now 23.
Greendale, it turns out, not only harks back to family values but is also a family affair. Pegi plays Edith Green. Zeke works backstage. Even Ben toured with them. His sister Amber, 18, is one of the dancers and her friend Sarah White plays the hippie-ish Sun, repository of Young's hopes for the future. Young professes to believe that young people will use the internet to save the environment. "There's no doubt green is the new colour."
