"That special something is the Blue Moon, an eight-story, 22-suite hotel that Settenbrino hopes will honor the soul of the building and the neighborhood’s immigrant past by retaining the original tenement’s facade and fire escape design, and mixing elements of the old interior with simple, luxurious rooms that have a period feel. On the ground floor, Settenbrino is even planning a kosher restaurant specializing in immigrant fare (complete with takeout window to lure the neighborhood’s younger, cooking-impaired residents)."
5 existing floors pluss 3 floors of new construction. the addition looks like hell, but could pass for kookie or excentric. elevator ? I prefer additions to look like spaceships settled on the roof tops instead of whako integrations. I wonder what the zoning restrictions on nyc roof top additions are.
great post dave
Speaking of spaceships settled on rooftops, here's the addition that will "finish" the Hearst tower at 8th and 56th. Construction was halted during WW2 due to a steel shortage, and "resumed," with a slightly different plan, this year.
An article here calls it a "lava lamp."
