bird sighting
Wish I could post a picture, but I was going 65 mph at the time. I saw a pair of hawks (?) perched on a light pole in the middle of the US 101/ I-880 interchange. Very cool. Nice to know that some predators can coexist with us.
They’re all over the place; it’s mostly a matter of awareness. NYC is full of raptors, especially in the winter. How many thousands of people walk through midtown each day without noticing the Peregrine Falcon perched on the corner of the GM Building? (OK, it’s just a speck, but it’s there…)
A talon for his trouble
Bike courier Bill Gerhardt helps what appears to be a red-tailed hawk that was sitting stunned on Queen Street near Bay and blocking traffic yesterday. He picked it up, at which point it sank its talons through his gloves. But when he released the bird it flew away, apparently healthy.
