6th
When I hear people say, "Extinction is a normal process. Perhaps x was meant to die", I launch into my number 6 diatribe: "There have been 5 mass extinctions in the history of the planet. You're living in number 6. ..."
This doesn't do much for creationists, but I think it causes rational people to pause, at least for a moment.
Shouldn't it be 7, if we include the appearance of blue-green algae that wiped out almost all anaerobic life on earth (not sure when that was, but I'm sure it way predated those other periods).
Overlooking the role of blue-green algae is yet another example of multi-cellular chauvinism.
