is it considered good luck to have a pigeon build a nest and roost on your windowsill? ive got one about two feet from here with two eggs unhatched. guess thats a little more than roosting. whats the word for that? incubating? nesting?
Take photos for those of us who've "never seen a baby pigeon."
i dont have a camera. i promise to replicate the tweeting sound at the nearest yat.
i tell the story of J and family watching pigeons on his bedroom window sill right nest to his bed. once the pigeon babies took off so did the parents. he left his laptop on the inside sill and bird mites moved into the laptop for the heat. so then when he used the laptop in bed on his chest they moved into the bed and the whole family were bitten up with red welts. so yes go ahead and leave that nest there and get ready for fun. i hate pigeons. loose the eggs and the parents will split. rats with wings!
my busy and somewhat unobservant friend left his window open for days on end and a pigeon built a nest and laid an egg on his desk next to his computer. Eventually he noticed some twigs poking out behind a stack of papers and threw the whole batch out the window (and shut the window). I'll have to tell him about the mites! yuck.
i guess i heard the term rats with wings right around then but with out actually catching the flic.
I like pigeons. I think they're funny. Unlike rats.
"He keeps birds. Filthy, disgusting, dirty, lice-ridden birds. A person used to be able to sit on the stoop. No More. BIRDS!"
I believe that was "boids."
I like them too. We used the pigeon as an icon for our magazine and this is the first animated gif I ever used (made by joester, I think).

bird dropping science
im not dumb but i cant understand why she clucks like a chicken but squawks like a (tou)can...
Always visit in person to ask permission -and- Check which species it is OK to shoot

Stardust Memories on TCM now.
the two eggs hatched about a week ago. a few days later only one hatchling remained. dont know what happened to number 2. for the most part one parent or another has been sitting on top of the newborn and it was difficult to see. but its starting to get too big for that treatment although it persists for the time being with baby parts poking out from all sides.
theyll be back next year for more of the same.
Hatchling no. 2 made a nice meal for mom and dad (see Times article today on non-maternal behavior).
saw it fly for the first time today. the whole family is hanging out on another fire escape about 10 feet away.
The other thing I think is funny is when males puff up and scurry after oblivious females. Not too oblivious, obviously, or you wouldn't have eggs on your sill.
i think i still see the baby but the parents may have split. dont know if thats for good or not. pretty hardcore if at the first sign of flight from the youngin, they take off. why it was just this morning that one of the adults was still nurturing the infant and then....poof....see ya.
