For Sally McKay, a Branch of May, full of Cowbirds.
Can you spot the female?
That's a beautiful photo.
I'd guess the lower of the birds on the left, the serene looking one, is the female. The other two seem to be eyeing each other with malicious intent.
Serene because she's got the child care thing all figured out.
the brown one in the lower right.
D'oh!
awesome! Thank you Alex. I've always liked cowbirds since I was a kid because they are easy to identify (the males, anyhow). Now that I know more about the females' aggro free-wheeling ways I'm kind of in awe.
Dave wins the prize.
The inconspicuous gray-brown female is directly below the dark male.
Give that man a cow pie!
…and now it’s family time. Don’t blink or you’ll miss it.
The ungrateful youngster sits in a tree begging incessantly…
…then receives a flash feeding.
Parent turns out to be a Warbling Vireo, a songbird weighing about a third as much as it’s adoptive charge. Where’s Angelina Jolie when you need her?
