  • According to Wikipedia:

The J platform was a designation used for two automobile platforms from Chrysler Corporation in the 1980s.

The first was a rear-wheel drive platform, in production from 1980. It was very similar to the 4-door Chrysler F platform and Chrysler M platform, which were based on the Chrysler A platform.
But that wasn't related to my car. As Wikipedia goes on to say:
A second, unrelated, J platform, this time a variant of the front-wheel drive K platform, arrived in 1987 with the introduction of the new Chrysler LeBaron coupe and convertible. This platform remained in production until 1995.
I think my J2000 was one of these second, unrelated, J platform vehicles, under the Pontiac brand.

It was a crappy car for sure, but served me well, and kept running through years and years of abuse and neglect. I had many good times in that car, including several east coast Dead tours. It was finally stolen in Providence RI and recovered a week or so later only several blocks from my apartment. Probably some kids out for a joy ride. The insurance company, on inspection, declared it "totaled". But the truth was, except for a broken window, the car was in about the same shape it had been in when stolen.

    I've never owned another car.

1972 Ford LTD Country Squire

  • My mom had a 72 country squire. I learned to drive in that boat. She had it for like 15 years. One time she was stopped in back of someone making a left turn and a small toyota crashed into the back of the car. My mom's squire had a little dent in the rear door. The toyota was crumpled up into a heap and the fire dept had to use the jaws of life to get the driver out. Good old Betsy

We had a 72 country squire (white with fake wood) for a few years. It was my Mom's car. It had a 400 with a 2 barrel (gobs of torque) for occasional towing duty. I drove it for a couple of years in high school.

My brother arranged to buy a Mach 1. I'm not sure which generation Mustang it was. Never saw the car. My Mom took it to get a pre-purchase inspection to a mechanic she used. The mechanic checked out the car, told her it was okay, and then said, "Mrs. M, I think you need to understand what this car can do." He proceeded to lay a massive patch of rubber across the parking lot. My brother says my Mom was shaking.

He didn't get the car.

For some reason, he dodged the whole "drive Mom's old wagon" thing. He did get a Datsun Z car that he put in a ditch.
