Not online, but this was in the New Yorker recently, referenced at bottom of: According to the New Yorker, those bogus NYPD warning signs were put up by an Iraq War veteran who operated Army drones during the war and objects to their use by civilian police.

its not really stealing linda, its creation
- Skinny 2-05-2012 4:22 am [add a comment]

[fake (state)] property is theft...or, uh...sharing.
- sally mckay 2-05-2012 5:25 am [add a comment]

It's stealing if you take something that belongs to someone else. Not sure what you mean, creation. Someone created a public art piece. For the public. Do you mean you create it as art by putting it on your wall? Lots of lamas here, this weekend, I can ask. Coincidentally, the teachings are on vows, this weekend, and stealing is tomorrow.

Art is a collective activity. We all work on the same painting. No my part your part. No real ownership. Public art is collectively owned. The artist in this case is imposing their idea on you wether you like it or not. Some will like it some won't. It will also be taken down by the city soon and disposed of. So if you like it take it now. Or not. There are no real rules for this kind of street statement.

Is it art or propaganda?
- steve 2-05-2012 2:31 pm [add a comment]

I see, bill. But when will the city take it down. Maybe weeks or months, maybe they will miss that one and it'll be a year. and then all the people who might have seen said public art will miss out on an experience. And maybe better if someone else takes it home with them, the act of you leaving it for someone else means you will have art in your future.

GRAB IT, i'll take the negative karma
- Skinny 2-05-2012 8:11 pm [add a comment]

You get double karma for having someone else do it for you. ;-( or ;-) if they doing something good for you, like hanging your art in apublic place...Back to the tent! XO

Propaganda. This (here) is just a sign. The spiral is the art. It would be bad to take the sign. But I'd like to have it.
- bill 2-07-2012 2:06 pm [add a comment]

The sign is still up. It's in a pretty great spot where it has some visibility, but might still go unnoticed by anyone who might care.

In other news, Obama just signed a bill giving local police the go ahead to start using drones, followed by other non law enforcement commercial uses over the next few years.
- jim 3-07-2012 2:49 pm [add a comment]

The commercial use is the trojan horse, or the nose of the camel under the tent, or perhaps even the slope that is slippery. Once expectations of privacy have been eroded by taco delivery drones, then those pesky search warrants are less of an issue for police drones.

Just noticed it is gone. Must have been taken down in the last couple of days pretty good run.
- jim 6-14-2012 2:05 am [add a comment]

Are there any burn marks from the drone-mounted laser that took it out?
