Living there would make you sadder. The City Airport Inn was right in my neighborhood growing up, I had to look at a map to remember its exact circumstances. An airport motel is not unusual, but by the time I was growing up most of the air traffic had moved to Metropolitan Airport outside of the city limits, and the place seemed a little shady. On the other hand, I do recall JFK and Apollo astronauts coming into City. I was born in 1958, pretty close to the tipping point for Detroit in its journey from successful industrial metropolis to failed city; it's been gong downhill my whole lifetime. Probably just as well I didn't really understand that during my childhood.

I saw a short documentary of a gay male design couple that moved from mIami (one of them was from Detroit) back to a Detroit artists work space. So it does have possibilities. Just tough business day to day and you would want to get out of there fairly regularly. Philly isn't much better, except less empty lots. if someone doesn't start making some repairs they will be in the same boat soon.
