I haven't bought the times in weeks but I do get a summerial e.mail from them every morning / todays includes this :
How Bush Took Florida: Mining the Overseas Absentee Vote
A six-month investigation by The Times shows that under intense pressure from Republicans, Florida officials accepted hundreds of overseas absentee ballots that failed to comply with state election laws.
i havent read the article yet but that information was known at the time but the demos decided not to press the questionable overseas ballots because they didnt want to encourage the potential negative publicity that the repubs would unleash if they dared question the boys (and girls) in uniform. bad choice by the dems. the pundits this morning blamed lieberman for that decision. he thought being a suckup would be better than being righteous which are the only two speeds most politicians understand. meanwhile the repugs continued to howl at the moon which in this case heeded their cries and turned into the supreme court ruling in their favor.
on a trivial note, george stuffinenvelopes said this was the longest ny times article since watergate but that there was no smoking gun contained within.

The pubs seem always to be playing the patriotism card for political advancement. I'm reminded of Bush Sr's efforts to ammend our constitution to ban flag burning. How do you counter without appearing anti-American ?
