Being on the street, I'd hazard a guess that it's a replica or a continuation model. The continuations are built using the original design. The continuation cars are expensive, but don't have the collector value of the cars with heritage
The motivation for the car was spite. Henry Ford II had been in negotiations with Enzo Ferrari to buy Ferrari. When the deal went south, the GT 40 was developed to beat Ferrari. They won four consecutive races at Le Mans, so they did okay.
