Subject: Re: freak flag , de ja vous

Kyla,

"let my freak flag fly"

is from a CSNY song, some lines of which are
"almost cut my hair/happened just the other day/it was getting kinda
long/could have said it was in my way/ [....] increased my
paranoia/like looking in the mirror and seeing a police car/ but I
didn't and I wonder why/guess I thought I'd let my freak flag
fly/felt like I owed it to- someone."

In those days, no self respecting hippy called him/herself a hippy,
this had long since turned into a distressing media word. We were
freaks. Nice, because (a) it took over a term of abuse & turned it
into our own happy word (b) one meaning is mutant (c) it has "free"
in it.(d) lets go over and lower the flag on Jim Louis's cat

Nowadays I find I don't mind "old hippy."

The great thing about the hippies was it was cool to be weird-- a
very interesting merging of opposites that made me very happy & meant
I fit in pretty well, finally, for awhile.

Still hairy after all these years

David Crosby was actually referencing Hendrix. Old hippies get a bit fuzzy on this sort of thing. Speaking of which, what's this thread about? Oh yeah, haircuts...?
