Well, it has turned out to be an epic day for local birders. Many seabirds were forced inland and have been streaming down the Hudson and East Rivers, and along Long Island. With help from some more-knowledgeable folks I managed to see Leach's and Wilson's Storm-Petrels, Greater Shearwater, and Red-necked Phalarope from the foot of Veteran's Pier in Bay Ridge. Numerous other rarities are reported around the area. Storm birding is legendary, but rarely pans out on this scale; probably the biggest day in a generation.
