In india, africa and elsewhere,, once a girl baby is no longer breast feeding it is not uncommon that food for her is deemed less necessary than for her male siblings, same with medical, so there is high rate of death for girls after a year old. not sure exactly how she gets at these figures but i've been trying to find more details myself.
