We are pleased to announce that WFMU's live streams are finally available on the iPhone. iPhone listeners can point their browsers at iphone.wfmu.org and listen to our live mp3 streams at either 128k or 32k and also choose from a selection of our archived content and podcasts.

Based on our initial testing it will come as no surprise that tuning in over Wifi will get you the best results however we've also had reports of listeners with strong EDGE reception tuning in at 128k without issue. Since the Quicktime player in the iPhone has somewhat poor buffering compared with thick client-side players like Winamp and iTunes, we recommend listening to the 32k stream while connected over EDGE.

For the time being we are only offering a small subset of our archived content and podcasts on the iPhone but will be adding more content as time goes by.

there was a point in the mid to late 60's that you had to have a peanuts sweatshirt. it was a major pop clothes item at my school in miami. i forgot which character i had but eventually i cut off the arms so that it would be sleeveless and or sported inside out with the worn nappy fleece on the outside.

You're a Complicated Man, Charlie Brown
At its peak, over 350 million people around the world read "Peanuts" every day. Its creator, Charles Schulz, led a much darker life than anyone realized, and he put his troubles into the funny pages every day. Kurt talks with biographer David Michaelis about how America’s most beloved comic strip made "depressed" a household word.

For modular furniture fans, I've been buying stuff from Per Madsen (a local supplier) since the 80's (starting with shelving for vinyl sound recording disks). I just took delivery on some file cabinets. Key factors for me: sturdy, wood, & wheels!

Exciting day today. Flew to San Diego for a meeting. Meeting was canceled due to evacuation of facility. (SoCal is on fire.) Was about to fly back when I noticed my laptop was gone. Left it in the seatback pocket. Phone calls to a couple of computer geeks I know (starting with JimL, then MB) to get my yahoo email password changed. Flew back. Busy changing other passwords, just in case. Five minutes ago found out my laptop is in San Diego. Now need to arrange transport for said ancient computing device. Always carry a machine with low residual value. (It was teh awsum!!!! in 2003.)

Late Thursday afternoon, the newly arrived pest-control troops swarmed over Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village. In their flashy red and black jackets, they fanned out among the flowers and shrubs, searching for aphids, mites and other threats to the greenery at the heavily landscaped campus of Manhattan’s most famous middle-income rental complex.

ScanCafe: cheap, high quality photo scans. Kevin Kelly has a rave review.

This service will digitize your old slides, negatives and photographic prints at high quality and at a very cheap price. I've been using them to scan my 30-year backlog of photographs and I have been delighted with the results. I've used other services to scan my old photos; ScanCafe is by far the best deal. Their prices are fantastic. To scan a slide is just 24 cents, a color negative 19 cents.

Did I post this already? I don't know, but I've always been amused by the weird use of quotation marks found on so many signs. And here's a whole blog "dedicated" to the subject.

my partner and i wanted to spend a nite out this fall and so we heard neil young was playing uptown at this beautiful place called United Palace Theatre (owned by a church), so i went to see on sale date and discovered they were auctioning the front rows (part of??), we got 4th row center for 2 x face....

i assume neil oked this and made the $$, the scalpers whom i assume also bought now are charging 4x.....

Some scientists even suggest that crows are more sophisticated tool builders than chimps, since they can transmit their knowledge on to successive generations and improve the tools over time.

Scroll down the article for interesting Quicktime video of Crow making tool. (unfortunately with annoying Boston.com sign in)

Lease a car in Europe instead of renting and save big money. Minimum 17 days is the only downside, but everything else looks awesome: comprehensive zero deductible insurance, unlimited mileage, and a fresh factory new car exactly to your specifications. For less money than renting.
