English speakers have borrowed several words from the Algonquian language family. Among these are: RACCOON, SKUNK, MISSISSIPPI, POW-WOW, MOOSE, SQUASH, TOMAHAWK, MOCCASIN, CHICAGO, WISCONSIN, and OPPOSUM.
Did the Algonquians pronounce it squarsch?
SQUASH (a) : short for askoottasquash, Proto-Algonquian askw- (plant) + -ash (inanimate plural ending) or in the Cheyenne: mahao?o (same as melon) . Squarsch is French from the Latin quassare, which is to say I smote Kristy the Wordsmit.

Yes, all the binomial animal pen names are likely to be me. When you posted this query I was swimming with the sea turtles of Puerto Angel, Oaxaca, as research for a biography I'm being tapped to write. What is going on? Well, the Ren Hill Wall's are going on & on about missing you.
I kind of like the guest designation , it suits my elfish imp. C'mon y'all IT"S ALL GOOD.
