anyone aware of a good digital photography blog. one that discussed cameras ? im seriously thin king of getting the leica d-lux. i know the draw back, only 3mp. but good lens. small but not too damn small and of decent heft. a camera for life ? all the google results direct you to resources and resources posing as reviews.
Dpreview and Steve's Digicams are the most respected as far as I know.
I know you like the leica design, but you should at least look at the tiny Canon's.
Oh yeah: can't wait for you to have a camera Bill!

How much is the leica? I'm a big fan, have owned 6 of their movie cameras and a slew of lenses but when it comes to digital I think in the long run you might be happier spending less on a higher res canon.
I have the Nikon Coolpix 3200 3.2 megapixels. I find it great for my needs which are mostly viewing on screen and printing no bigger than 8X10. Sharp lens, great color and cheap.
$700.00 at j and r, maybe less on the net. its made in japan and designed in germany. the lens is from leica, the electronics are from panasonic. veryhigh fives here at popflash
I think you need to get something uglier.
It is nice looking. What is the optical (not digital) zoom? I have found that you really want a 3x at least (2.5x seems close, but it's really not.)
Off topic, but somebody made a digital version of that old boxy camera body where you look down into the big viewfinder on the top of the camera. Maybe the original took 4x6 negatives? Ring any bells? That one is pretty retro sweet looking too I think. Can't find it though...
That means you're paying an extra $350 for the lens and taking a .2 hit in megapixels. I would bet that the better glass (As if Nikon or Canon are slouches in the lens dept) won't make up for the loss in res when it comes to sharpness.
I might consider spending the savings on a M2 or M3 body, You could pick up a decent m mount 50mm lens for about the same price then you'd have resolution up the wazoo for the larger print jobs.
i hear you steve. ive never used anything but point and shoot. and dont expecct to turn back to film at this point. here is the leica d-lux page. i like those canons too. ill be needing this for studio installation shots and for carry around purposes. dont expect to print at all. this will be for internet and i.photo applications mostly. also expect to use video feature too. theres a used one on e.bay with only one battery and no charger or manual for $300.00 w/ no bids and a $400.00 buy it now price that closes tomorrow. think think thunk thunk....
jim this ?
done.
Damn you and your incitement of my own technolust. My coolpix 950 is just fine ... my coolpix 950 is just fine ...
