May Day bird list. Not bad, though the numbers are down from the big flight that came through with last week’s unseasonably warm temperatures. The highlight was American Bittern, rarely seen in Prospect Park (my second in 4+ years there) though some may recall one from Central Park on 4/30/04.

I’ve been using eBird a free listing program from Cornell; it’s convenient, but they want to use the data for conservation and other scientific purposes, so they lean on you for quantifiable data. Counting pigeons and Canada geese is not high on my agenda, but I’m trying to provide reasonable estimates, so that my data will not be “degraded.” - alex 5-04-2009 3:50 pm [add a comment]
