wow, that's quite a determined effort. i'm impressed. it was nice to be up during the storm, but was it worth 40 gallons of gas per hour?
40 gals per hour works out to a little under 500 kW. That's a lot of gear.
Yeah, it's a big facility.I think third biggest in NYC. 60 Hudson is larger, and just across the street from us. It was all lit up and humming throughout the blackout as well. Kind of weird to see it with everything else blacked out.
As to the ethics of it all I don't know what they could have done. These are businesses with contracts to honor. They can't suddenly decide to take client sites down on the hope that the fuel companies might decide to do something more useful with the fuel. Plus, emergency and medical services were already getting priority for delivery.Still, the larger question of how useful the internet is remains. For me the net is a crucial part of my life but that might not be the best thing....
So diesel, not gas. A bucket of gas is pretty volatile. And more expensive too @ aprox $4.21 pr gal.
if you have any doubts about "how useful the internet is...?" just visit a part of the world where the last few strains of a vanishing language or plant or people or music or tadpole or folktale will now at least be remembered a little, if not revived and saved. iPhones are Ghost Dancing on the Plain of Jars. Horrible as it might seem; it's our only hope for so many things in this one universe that need to be connected because they really are connected, and despite your effacement, you know it, Jim. The technological leap was to the WORD; wherever that leap is taking us the internet is not standing in the way. Build thee more stately MINECRAFT O my soul.
