Jim, Logging in has been goofy since the last update. The system behaves differently depending on what computer I'm on. Currently it doesn't exactly recognize my cookie although it will let me access the index, from where I can view core then when I hit the home button viola, my settings appear. The good news is that I was able to do this through netscape on this computer.
What do you mean by "it doesn't exactly recognize my cookie"?
Does that mean the front page doesn't say "Hello Steve"? (And you don't see [new posts] [new comments]?)
If you can see /core then you are signed in and things are working correctly.
I believe you that something is wrong, but since I don't see it you have to be very specific about what is happening.
Sorry for the problems.
OK, I don't know what it is or isn't recognizing. It seems as if I am logged out when I first arrive at the home page. No greeting, my preferred pages aren't showing up according to the way I have them configured (core, suggestions and I think Tom and Jeff) the counters are all zeroed, the "click here to view the most recently updated pages" option is available, and yet I do have access to all the pages through the index. So it must be recognizing me. It's not a problem, just letting you know of what seems to be a very minor glitch.
Maybe it's just a cache problem. When you sign in and are taken back to the home page (where it then seems like you are not signed in?) maybe your computer is showing you a local cached version of the front page (from the time before, when you weren't signed in.) Instead of going to another page and hitting [home] to get back to the front page (where you now magically appear to be signed in) just reload the front page in your browser. This will force it to get a fresh version of the front page.
If that works (and makes any sense) you can permanently fix this problem by disabling your browsers cache (so it loads every new page from the server, and not from a local copy) in preferences under advanced (in Netscape.)

That does make sence. Thanks, I'll try it.
