Adobe adds Apple's HTTP Live Streaming to Flash Media Server.
Towes [Adobe] noted in a blog post that Adobe is adding HTTP Live Streaming support to Flash Media Server and Flash Media Live Encoder. "By adding support for HLS within the Flash Media Server, Adobe is reducing the publishing complexity for broadcasters who need to reach browsers supporting HLS through HTML5 (such as Safari) or devices where Adobe Flash is not installed."

In other words, instead of trying in vain to persuade Apple to build Flash into iOS, or losing potential Flash Media Server customers to some other iOS-compatible solution, Adobe seems to be implicitly acknowledging that content publishers need Flash-free video streaming.
There are still a lot of difficulties in the streaming video world but this makes things a lot easier.
who is ready for a soccer update? shouldnt there be an exclamatory question mark elision?

theres a confusing jumble of tournaments remaining in the various leagues in europe. as it stands manchester united and barcelona have comfortable leads in their respective leagues the winners of each determined by aggregate points awarded for wins and ties. concurrently each of these leagues have a knockout tournament aka cups which have no bearing on the yearlong points gathering but which still are valued though not as much as winning the league. and there are also the european-wide club team tournaments, most notably the champions league which is perhaps most prized though some may argue that winning the respective home league is a more grueling affair.

so the champions league has reached the semi-finals with barcelona facing rivals real madrid and manchester united up against schalke from the german bundesliga. schalke are currently in 10th place this season in germany so that theyve made it this far is a surprise to many observers. they even fired their coach about a month ago. manchester will be heavily favored whereas barcelona have a much more formidable opponent in real madrid.

today barcelona face madrid in their final matchup in league play. barca have a considerable points lead going in but madrid could make up the difference should barcelona stumble in going down the stretch. but todays match might be about building confidence going into the champions league and the copa del rey which will also pit barcelona and real madrid in the finals. so these two teams will face each other four times in the next three weeks for three different tournaments.

"Saturday's Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid is the precursor for a total of four meetings between Real Madrid and Barcelona in the space of 18 days. Something which has never before happened in Spanish history."

meanwhile in england, there is an fa cup semi-final match today between manchester united and manchester city just about to kick off. manchester city are the upstarts and would be pleased to win the cup while united might be looking past them towards a league title and victory in the champions league.

"But this is a new Manchester City, and the gap between the two clubs is as close as it has been since the early 1980s. Hard cash and heavy investment of it has seen to that. Despite a slump in form that ended hopes of a challenge for the Premier League title, and may yet endanger their minimum target of Champions League football for 2011-12, the Blues must not travel to Wembley with doom in their hearts. Recent derbies may have swung in United's fashion in the last couple of seasons but each success has been a hard-won result for the aristocrats from Old Trafford."

Harris Ranch beef has a good reputation. I've driven past their restaurant and inn a zillion times, but never stopped. I ate there three times over the past weekend. Steak on the way south. Left over ribs later that day. Burger on the way back.

Steak: Over seasoned. Server stopped by to ask if I needed A1. I didn't say "I'm pretty sure this meat has enough sodium on it."

Pork Ribs: Overcooked and over sauced. Probably tried to cook them too fast at too high of a temperature.

Burger: I meant to stop at the Inn and Out about 20 miles south, but it was besieged by tour buses. That would have been a better choice at 1/3 the price.

Meh. I'll still buy their meat.
I don't agree with it all, and it's not all about food, but this mega comment reply to the standard "what should I do on my visit to NYC" is worth it just for the audacious scope.

RIP Sidney Lumet
He is so accomplished at echolocation that he’s able to pedal his mountain bike through streets heavy with traffic and on precipitous dirt trails. He climbs trees. He camps out, by himself, deep in the wilderness. He’s lived for weeks at a time in a tiny cabin a two-mile hike from the nearest road. He travels around the globe. He’s a skilled cook, an avid swimmer, a fluid dance partner. Essentially, though in a way that is unfamiliar to nearly any other human being, Kish can see.

The Health Consequences of Recent Budget Proposals

Budget cuts and spending are often a major issue throughout our country. Right now, that is ever present as the GOP has been launching an attack on the Environmental Protection Agency, by aiming to cut their budget by a third. Decreased resources and money in the budget could hurt the EPA, as less support for initiatives could mean in increase in health issues like mesothelioma, respiratory issues and asthma. Some of the main resources of the EPA go towards preventing water contamination, maintaining air quality, and assisting in asbestos removal, as well as making strides to battle the associated health risks.

One of the primary initiatives of the EPA involves the fight to keep water contamination to a minimum and water consumption safe. The Safe Water Drinking Act allows the EPA to provide a set of standards when it comes to water supply. It also allows the EPA to monitor local government and water suppliers to make sure contamination is at a minimum. Infected and contaminated water can be extremely hazardous while being known to bring forth health risks like lung cancer, Hodgkin’s disease, and some other cancers.

Keeping air quality safe is also a major initiative of the EPA. The Air Quality Modeling Group (AQMG) is a division of the EPA which is aimed to oversee and help smaller agencies, with reference to air quality. The AQMG uses a set of developed models and cycles to help provide others with the information to help air quality. Air quality could see some of the major impacts of lower resources and money for the EPA. Less of a fight for proper air quality could bring about an increase in toxins and pollution, leading to health risks like asthma and other severe respiratory issues.

The EPA also works all over the country to have asbestos removed. Previously known for its versatility and use in buildings all over, Asbestos is now regarded as the cause for diseases like asbestosis and mesothelioma. The fact that mesothelioma life expectancy is often so short, along with the other diseases brought on, has forced the progressive decrease in use of asbestos. Although not in use most anywhere these days, it could still be present in older insulation. With the full amount of resources and money, the EPA is able to combat these health risks through helping in the process of asbestos removal year after year.

Through some its initiatives it’s clear that the EPA plays a major role in not only keeping the environment safe, but also in keeping environmentally associated health risks to a minimum. By lowering the budget by over 30 percent, the EPA’s ability to keep the environment in the best condition, as well as fight as many environmentally related health risks as possible, is on the line.
