midnight run at 35 revisited

womens world cup started a couple of days ago. us started out with a gimme in the group stage but will have some tougher opponents upcoming and is no guarantee to advance with a bunch of key players sideline with injury and a lot of untested talent coming up behind them. not a lot of cohesion is the buzz.

unfortunately the plopped it down in australia and new zealand, the tournament that is. turns out putting it in the least accessible place is not great for western fans either for travel or for viewing so wont be catching too many stray matches outside of the us ones which hopefully theyll schedule at a viewable hour. otherwise they are all overnight.

this more than likely would have been the last go round for christen press and tobin heath, who have won with the us in 2015 and 19. both are injured and aging out of serious international play one would guess. but they team up on and off the field in this instance putting together a self produced world cup recap show. fairly candid interview with their old coach. maybe a little long. curious to hear them break down the games now that theyve started.

watched the first episode of the comedy jury duty knowing nothing about it other than it was up for some emmys and it popped up on my amazon prime. dont even know if ill follow through but at least i can say that the premise is interesting though the one unique aspect ups the cringe factor from what otherwise would already be cringy coming from some form writers from the office.

anyway, article will spoil the twist but the show spoils it in the opening segment so....

was an intersting path from airing first on amazons ad supported freevee network to award-worthy notoriety if nothing else.

"The widespread introduction of plutonium and plastic into the geological record are deeply intertwined. Perhaps the most substantial difference between “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” lies only in their respective approaches toward their common subject matter — a difference in attitude that ultimately reflects our own."

Watched this on Criterion last week. Spoiler allert. Really satisfying film. Two things I'm wondering, 1) when the two guys came to escort him out of his apartment, are they fascists arresting him or resistance to take him to a ship to freedom. Wikipedia had them as fascists. 2) Why take the painting if that's the case.
