there should be a new show i want to watch every night that i can then complain about. oh hey, december 5th, you say. not soon enough!
Mike Leigh is featured this month on criterion. I've seen all in this collection but The Short and Curlies which I'll probably skip because it's a short. Meantime was the first film of his I saw and remains a favorite.

wasnt as enamored with the conclave as others seem to be. def missed some of it by not having subtitles on but i thought it was gonna be more of a tense whodunnit and it was tense but more like rigor mortis.

Three by Jacques Audiard on criterion channel. Read My Lips, The Beat That My Heart Skipped, and Dheepan. After them I took a deeper dive. All but one of his movies revolve around criminals, are well-written and acted, and - spoiler alert - have happy endings. Paris, 13th District is about a love triangle—no crime—and is free, along with his films Rust And Bone and A Prophet on Amazon Prime if you're a subscriber.

mike, lead the way!
with the post election swing bluesky is finally making serious inroads into twitter. thread has supposedly 200 million users but everyone just ported over an account from instagram and it hasnt quite become the place. bluesky just topped 18 million users but more importantly prominent journalists and sports media people have begun to use it in earnest dragging their brands in their wake. as proof of its popularity the trolls have started to show up as well. how this is handled will be an interesting test. so far ive seen block lists that are user generated but just today in one thread i saw numerous accounts that were newly minted to own the libs as it were. at the very least, theyll never be able to dominate as theyve been enabled to since buying placement in comments killed twitter threads which were toxic to begin with.
in the meantime i was just slowly scrubbing my follows on twitter once they make the move or are inactive already. otherwise fun to see who the last holdouts will be. someone mentioned it had to do with the fact that most of the software that allows you to post on multiple sites simultaneously havent added bluesky as an option yet but that seems like it will have to be rectified in short order.
arcane has been quite good though the second season does feel rushed now that i know they are closing up shop after this one when five were originally planned. apparently its the most expensive anime(tion) series produced at $250 million for 18 episodes.
